Keller installed 378 pcs of Ø600mm Lime Cement Columns within a small construction pit in Mjøndalen. The construction pit was made to establish a pump station to control future flood water situations.
The project
Nedre Eiker commune wanted to make a pump station in conjunction to Wildenveys park to better control future flood water situations from the nearby River in Mjøndalen. Keller was contracted to make a bottom slab of Lime Cement Columns in the construction pit during the execution phase. The main contractor was Kaare Mortensen Buskerud AS.
The challenge
In this project the biggest challenge was the lack of space in this small construction pit and the very soft ground. To be able to track the rig inside the pit we had to inject binder all the way to the top to stabilize the ground completely.
The solution
Keller established 378 pcs of Ø600 Lime Cement Columns with lengths of about 13 meter each. Due to the very soft soil in the construction pit, the columns had to go all the way up to the surface. Above the excavation level, a reduced amount of binder was used. The columns was tested with FKPS where a wing is penetrating the columns from above. The test showed a shear strength of well above the required shear strength of 100 kPa.
